French Door Curtains

I’m not sure about anyone else but I had no idea that you had to use special French door curtains on your French doors.   I’ll be the first to admit I’m a bit of an airhead and don’t really know a lot about fancy stuff like that but it did eventually get extremely annoying having my curtains getting caught up in the doors every time they were used.

Someone finally told me that you needed special curtains and two curtain rods.  A rod at the top and a rod at the bottom to keep them from moving around.

If someone would have told me this interesting fact 3 years ago I’d feel a few years less silly but I’m used to feeling foolish and have come to expect it.

You get your fancy French door curtains and your two curtain rods attach them to the doors so they are secure and life is much less frustrating.   You can leave them hang straight if you want or tie the middles so they have a nice hour-glass look.

You most definitely do not want to use blackout curtains here since you want both sides to look the same and they have a curtain lining.  I’m assuming you want them to look the same from both sides…oh shoot are you supposed to put curtains on both sides of the door?  Research time, I guess.  Well I’m not looking it up anytime soon eventually someone will tell me if I’ve done it wrong…again.

You can get these curtains in a variety of fabrics and styles such as velvet curtains, sheer, or cotton.  Pretty much any fabric you want and they’ll make it for you assuming that you have the money for it.  I’m saying they in a general custom curtain kind of way.  You can get ready made curtains if your door is a standard size.  Not all doors are made equal though so get out your measuring tape and hope for the best.

I think the sheers look best, unless you haven’t cleaned the rooms on both sides of the door recently.  If you tend to be cluttered you might want to go with a less see through fabric.

Price range is about the same as other curtains.  It just depends on how large the curtains are, what fabric you want, and where you shop.  Funny how two different places can have two different prices for the same thing.

Hope you have better luck with your French door curtains than I did.
