Curtain Lining

 A lot of apartments require that you have a curtain lining of the appropriate color (normally white) if you do not have blinds on your windows.  It gives the complex a more uniform appearance and doesn’t look quite as strange to folks seeing the buildings from the street.

This is a great tip for homeowners as well.  I’ll admit most of my curtains in my house are semi-sheer and have no lining but I do have white blinds under them so you can’t tell that I’ve got a bunch of different colored window treatments for different rooms.

Sheer curtains don’t come with a lining because you can see through them and if they had a lining then they would no longer be sheer.  I’m sure you already knew that however.

Anyway…

If you are planning to sell your house or just want it to look nice from the outside having all the windows appear the same is a good idea.  Curb appeal they call it.  Well my house may have a uniform look from outside the windows but the rest of it is a mish mash of whatever.  They may call it curb appeal but that’s not what I have exactly.  Any place that has curtains for sale will have some curtains that are lined.

I’m starting to think I should stop talking about my house so much, y’all’s gonna start thinking I’m tacky (I am) or something.

Back to curtain lining…if you decide to make your own curtains you can pick up the lining at the same time and just sew them together and there you go… curtains.  I guess that little curtain making guide I read awhile back made it sound that easy.  I have a feeling that it would not end up as neat if I tried it.  Most things don’t.  I’m not sure how it would work with something like velvet curtains but I’m sure a clever seamstress could make it work.

The lining in your curtains also helps to keep the sunlight out somewhat so it is not blazing into your house.  Now it doesn’t block much of the sunlight but a bit more than just regular old thin curtains would.

That’s probably more than you wanted to know about me and my curtains and hopefully at least a little that you did want to know about curtain lining.  I’m afraid it’s not a very exciting topic and there’s not really much more to say about it.
