Blackout Curtains

Blackout Curtains are a must for people who can’t sleep in the light. Whether you work 3rd shift, are a nightowl, or have some reason that you have to grab your sleep when you can you can use these to help you get the rest that you need to function.

These curtains do more than just block the light. They will help lower your homes energy costs. Because they block the sunlight the room will stay cooler in the winter and because of the special backing used to block the light it will also help to insulate the room.

Manufacturers of blackout curtains claim up they can save up to 25% on your homes heating and cooling costs but in general what the manufacturers say needs to be taken knowing that they want your business. Even a small savings will add up. If you’ve ever tried to pay that huge January and February heating bill you’ll be glad to save a few dollars there.

Another useful feature of these curtains is that they help block noise. I mentioned working 3rd shift earlier and if you’ve ever done so and had a bunch of noisy young children decide that your bedroom window was the best place to play then you understand what the term noise pollution really means. Not trying to insult the little darlings but I’ve got to admit I’ve done my share of yelling through the window to get them to go away.

All the other useful features that they might be able to lay claim to light suppression is the primary reason to purchase these. Blocking 99% of the light will enable you to get that goodnights sleep that we all need and deserve. Again the 99% is what some of the manufacturers claim.

You will need to make sure to get a proper fit to block as much light as possible. Light coming in from the top, bottom, and sides can take that 99% down some. The last thing you want is a spotlight hitting your eyelids at 7 in the morning. That’s a sure way to wake up several times and end up getting cranky when you finally give up and just get up.

Pricing is pretty reasonable on these curtains $20-$50ish dollars, of course you CAN pay more if you work at it. There’s always someone willing to sell you something for a few dollars extra.

You can get these curtains from almost any material known to man from velvet curtains to voile curtains and put them on any window.  Well maybe you wouldn't want to use them as french door curtains but anything else would be ok...I think.

There you have it a quick and easy lowdown on the sometimes needed blackout curtains.
