Microfiber Sofa Review

One of my favorite material/furniture combinations is the microfiber sofa.  Microfiber can be used (and is) for all sorts of things but it is a really comfortable material to lounge on.  I’ve had my sofa for around 7 years now and the fabric has held up well to quite a bit of general abuse.

Microfiber is soft, easy to clean, and durable and as such makes a great material for items which get a lot of use.  It’s so easy to clean that it is used as a cleaning cloth for delicate household items and glasses.  It doesn’t leave lint behind and makes a great towel for drying.

The fact that the material is durable means only that the fabric itself is durable, the frame and stuffing of the piece of furniture cannot be improved on by covering it with a nice piece of fabric.  Being easy to clean doesn’t mean that it’s never going to take a stain.  Anyone with kids will tell you that there is no such thing as something that is completely stain resistant.

The thing I like the most about my microfiber sofa is that it is soft.  When I come home tired and want to flop on the couch I don’t want a coarse material poking at me.  I had a leather sectional sofa before I got the new couch but there are a few things that make me prefer microfiber to leather.

Leather makes you sweat.  Maybe not you but when it is 90 degrees outside it makes me sweat.  I won’t presume to assume anything about you.  Trying to peal myself off the couch is not always a fun adventure.  There’s a whole explanation about the wicking of moisture over at Wikia but I’m not going to delve into that.  If you want to read more go there.

My couch is about 5 or 7 years old and it’s gotten a lot of abuse.  We use it as a kitchen table, a gaming center, and as nap central.  It’s been spilled on and walked on (don’t ask) and the fabric has held up just fine.  Notice I’m not talking about the cushions and frame itself… there are a few issues there I’m afraid.

I personally would recommend a microfiber sofa to anyone looking to purchase new furniture but I’d caution to ensure that the quality of the other materials used in the construction are of high standards.
