Mattress Storage and Moving

One of the fun parts of moving is mattress storage.  For some reason it always rains or snows on moving day.  I can’t explain why but it usually happens.  I think Murphy’s Law comes into play and things just start going wrong from the beginning and go wrong until the end.

If you’ve ever dropped your mattress into the mud, not me of course, you’ll know the frustration that comes with trying to clean and dry that big and bulky object.

The basic premise of storing your mattress is a large plastic bag into which the mattress is placed (trust me this sounds much easier than it really is) and then the bagged up mattress is put into a box and off it goes to the new house.

You can purchase Banana Bags or your moving company can supply your mattress storage bags.  If you are moving yourself and have a weaker partner you really want to protect your mattress.  I’m normally the weaker partner and for some reason I also end up being the walking backwards person.  Comes with being the female I guess.

If you are using a moving company you should ask them if they will supply these bags.  These guys are pros and chances are they will not drop your mattress but accidents do happen and remember Murphy that I mentioned earlier?  If your moving company does not supply them pick up some and bag your mattress before they get to your house.

The normal routine for moving a large object is that I get about halfway to the house and then yell “hold on I’m losing it”.  Normally this indicates I’m going to drop my end but on occasion it means I’m losing my mind.

I’ve spent a lot of my life moving from one place to another.  First as the daughter and then as the spouse of men who like to move.  I can tell you first hand it is much easier to be the daughter because you have no real responsibilities.  I’m tired and need a break doesn’t work as well when you have to do it or it doesn’t get done.

Using the proper sized mattress storage baggie will, hopefully, cause much less relationship strain when you don’t have to spend the night sleeping on the floor instead of on a nice, dry, and comfy mattress.  Get the right size of bag for your mattress.  They come in a variety to fit all the sizes from a small mattress to a large one.
