Hosta Honeybells

A favorite fragrant Hosta plant is Hosta Honeybells. This large and easy to grow Hosta plant lives for a long time and forms huge clumps that are over 40 inches wide. This plant is a cross between Hosta Sieboldiana and Plantaginea.

The leaves of Honeybells are a medium green and they are 10 inches long by 6 inches wide. The leaves are wavy and slightly rippled. Although this is an attractive solid green hosta plant many who grow it do so for the fragrant flowers.

If you are looking for a fragrant Hosta than Hosta Honeybells might be the one for you. This plant has lavender flowers in late July which are scented.

This is a sun resistant Hosta plant so it can has the flexibility of being grown in shade or part shade. I have very little shade so anytime a Hosta is sun resistant I get a bit excited. It is prone to slug damage so try to keep the slug population under control. Use the same care for Honeybells as you’d use with any other Hosta plant.

If planting in full or mostly shade good companions include Hosta Big Daddy, Astilbe, and Heuchera. If planting in a sunnier spot it can be planted with any moisture loving sun perennial or annual plant.

Division is easy with this plant. Simply divide, replant, and water well. Give each young plant enough space to grow to its very large mature size. If you decide to get crazy propagating this plant be careful if you have a smaller garden because it won’t take long to fill the area that you have.
