Hosta Fortunei Hyacinthina

Hosta Fortunei Hyacinthina is a sport of the original Fortunei Hosta species and has a huge number of sports to its credit.  This is a large fast growing Hosta that reaches a mature size of 30 inches high by 45 inches wide.

Fortunei Hyacinthina forms a tight mound of shiny green leaves which are ovate.  This plant has an understated beauty that will make it stand out in the garden but it doesn’t beg for attention.  This plant can be planted in sun or shade and as long as it has plenty of water will not demand any other attention.

This plant has lavender flowers which are reasonably attractive for a Hosta plant.

Some Sports of Hosta Hyacinthina include Hosta Gold Standard and Hosta Whirlwind.  If you are interested in trying to create new sports of Hosta this one is a good one to have in the breeding program as it sports easily.

Hosta Fortunei Hyacinthina is a great landscaping plant that makes a great addition to any large garden.  People with small gardens should try to find a smaller plant with similar characteristics unless you are willing to devote a good portion of your garden to this plant.
