Hosta August Moon

Hosta August Moon is a medium sized perennial Hosta plant. This plant has a medium rate of growth and will grow to a height of 16 inches. It will form a 30 inch diameter mound of foliage once it is a mature plant. This plant is a of Hosta sieboldiana lineage.

August Moon Hosta is a nice sun resistant plant but it is not slug resistant and slugs are prone to munching on Hostas at any opportunity.

The practically round leaves of August Moon are very strongly textured and have quite a bit of waving and rippling in the leaves. The leaves cup slightly upward and the tips tend to droop downward. The leaves of Hosta August Moon are 7 inches long by 6.75 inches wide. The leaves are not shiny but have prominent veins.

The coloration of this plant is what makes it so popular in the home garden. The leaves begin the season as a medium green but as summer heats up they start to change to a golden yellow. You can expect the leaves to show their best colors in… you guessed it… in August.

The flowers of August Moon are your basic boring Hosta flowers. They are white and start blooming in mid-July and will bloom for a few weeks before going to seed. The flowers of August Moon Hosta are fertile and can be used for breeding but you shouldn’t expect to get a plant similar to Hosta August Moon by planting the seeds. To propagate this plant it should be divided in early spring.

Hosta August Moon is a hardy and attractive garden plant and if a nice splash of chartreuse foliage is in order this plant will work wonderfully.
