Blue Angel Hosta
64Blue Angel Hosta
Planting blue hosta plants in the garden is a great way to liven things up a bit. One such Hosta plant is Blue Angel Hosta. This is a very large clumping plant and should not be planted in small gardens. This is an easy hosta plant, simply give it shade and lots of water and jump back because it will fill the area that it is planted in quickly.
The leaves of this perennial plant are blue and they are nicely textured which give the leaves a little extra appeal. A single leaf on this plant can be up to 18 inches across (as I said a large garden is needed) and the plant itself grows to 32 inches tall and 70 inches wide. It is one of the largest Hosta plants around.
Blue Angel Hosta is resistant to slugs which is a plus because way too many Hosta plants have been visited by these critters and the plant never wins. Slugs tend to hang out with Hostas and whenever you can find one that is attractive AND resistant to slugs (assuming your garden is prone to slugs) you should think about getting it if you think it might work in your garden.
Blue Angel Hosta does not like sunlight so consider planting it with your other sun intolerant Hostas such as Hosta Sieboldiana Frances Williams.
Blue Angel grows fast and will form a large clump in a few years. If you would like some extra plants just wait a year or 3 and propagate this Hosta by division and you can have multiple plants with a minimal investment.
The flowers are the normal generic boring Hosta flowers which bloom around July. There is nothing special with this aspect of the plant. Actually it’s kind of nice to have something to say about this plant that isn’t overblown. This is such a dramatic plant that having something understated to add is a novelty.
There are many blue hosta plants to choose from and this is just one. It is a great and eye-catching hosta primarily because of its size and ability to dominate a landscape but it also does have a great color so when hunting for new perennials Blue Angel Hosta can be hard to resist.
